The album Dead Letters was a milestone for The Rasmus. They had already released four albums in Finland before the age of 21, and had reached platinum album sales and played sold out arenas in their home country. But their fifth full-length outing, Dead Letters, including the world wide smash hit In The Shadows, propelled The Rasmus to fame and stardom all over the world.
Now, a little more than 15 years after the album was released, The Rasmus will play it from start to finish in a series of concerts in Europe, late September through early November 2019.
The singer, Lauri Ylönen, explains: "Dead Letters is the most important album in the history of The Rasmus. At the time of the release in 2003 we had already existed almost ten years and were on the threshold of adulthood as a band. With self-confidence and curiosity, the fear of the future defined our new style and identity for good. We want to celebrate the 15th anniversary of this album by diving back into that dark world and playing it live from start to finish."
Lauri continues: "We are super excited about this. The album is very theatrical and has strong imagery. We want to bring that visual world to the live performances. Some of the songs will have their first live premier in the Fall of 2019!"
Dead Letters will be re-released on CD and LP in a special Fan Edition on June 6th.

L'album Dead Letters è stato una pietra miliare per i The Rasmus. Avevano già pubblicato quattro album in Finlandia prima dei 21 anni, ed avevano ottenuto il Disco di Platino per le Vendite di Album e suonato in arene nel loro paese d'origine. Ma è stato il loro quinto album, Dead Letters, che include il grande successo mondiale In The Shadows, che ha spinto i The Rasmus alla fama ed alla celebrità in tutto il mondo.
Ora, a poco più di 15 anni dalla pubblicazione del disco, i The Rasmus lo suoneranno dall'inizio alla fine in una serie di concerti in Europa, da fine Settembre ad inizio Novembre 2019.
Il cantante, Lauri Ylönen, spiega: "Dead Letters è l'album più importante nella storia dei The Rasmus. Lauri continua: "Siamo davvero entusiasti di questo. L'album è molto teatrale ed ha un forte linguaggio figurato. Vogliamo portare quel mondo visivo nelle esibizioni dal vivo. Alcune canzoni saranno suonate per la prima volta nell'Autunno del 2019!"
Dead Letters sarà ripubblicato su CD ed LP in una Edizione Speciale per i Fan il 6 Giugno.

Dead Letters successor Hide From The Sun was released in the fall of 2005.
Eero: "When it's at its peak, it's a sensitive moment for the artist. That's when I was really annoyed when a magazine wrote that The Rasmus is a nice pop band. We weren't a pop band - at least not in our own mind. Before Hide From The Sun was made, it was a collective mood that now we're writing a rocky rock album."
The tenth studio album by The Rasmus is likely to be released this fall. The machining is already in good shape.
Aki: "We already had one training session in Spain and another one is due in January. Now we want to make songs in the style of the old union, because the interaction between us has done good things in the past. Let's play with each other and try and arrange new stuff on the fly."
Pauli: "I was undoubtedly a little worried beforehand about whether we could make this 'old school band thing' work again. That we are still rocking and will we find 100% of our common chemistry? There was no need to worry because now the watch seems to have a whole new sound. Of course, this full-blown Dead Letters rundown has raised the spirits even further."
Lauri: "Our vision for the future is very clear: next is the band sound. In fact, now that the guitar is out of fashion, such an approach feels damn fresh and inspiring!"

Lauri: "Yeah, it's quite special. We are going to play Dead Letters, the album, in whole. And we also have ten songs, voted by the fans, that we’re gonna to play as well.
But it's kind of like, a special show, because we're gonna have big LED screens, and video stuff, video content from the past, going along with the music on stage. And we're going through a lot of old material, right now. I found like 20 cassettes, of the past, like saying like: Home Party, 2003 Ruisrock Gig, 2007 Tour Bus Life, bla bla, you know. And so, we're checking out there, the old material from those times. And we want to bring those visuals, that once were very like a present to that time, and to our style and image, back to the stage. And it's gonna be really great, I hope."

Lauri: "Yeah, well - Let's say right now, I've written a bunch of stuff at home in LA. I've been very creative this year, I wrote like 15 songs. And with all the lyrics and everything. And those are just raw pieces, but they have pretty clear ideas in them."
Vid. I: "Do you think that it has changed, the songwriting process, when you moved to LA?"
"I don't think it has changed that much. I mean, the important thing is that we realized what we are good at. He's good at that stuff, and I have my melodies, and my lyrics, and stuff. So, you know, we just have to find a way to put them, those two, two together. And of course the guys arranging, and together, making it sound like The Rasmus."

"Problem. Normal. But, you know, it's fine. But, what I said: you have to have the vision, you have to have the goal. There's a name of the album already. If you have the style in your mind, if you have, like, ideas, that's the start you need, and the music will come."
Aki: "But we have, we have the music also, little, a little bit of it. We have, like, really nice ideas on the tape already. Not like the final stuff but, you know, some demos."

In the Shadows - the hit made the band international. The men vividly remember the story of the giant hit.
Aki: "We were doing a soundcheck in Vaasa. The rest of us had eaten, and Lauri stayed in the stern. Guitarist Pauli Rantasalmi had a riff - an idea we started jamming with. Then this one (Ylönen) comes spaghetti in his mouth to say that he would have the perfect idea for the melody. The first version was assembled in a quarter."
The men are clearly excited about the upcoming tour. Ylönen's anger turns to smile as he explains the plans he has already made.
Lauri: "Even though it is a club tour, it has the feel of a stadium concert as it will be a spectacle. The concept is scripted from start to finish. Sure, there's room for maneuver."
The Rasmus is currently working on a new album that is due out next year. It is followed by a live gig, which is better for musicians than anything else. Ylönen says he will be happy to play for the next 20 years if there is only a chance. Retiring soloist does not want to.
Lauri: "We have played in about 70 countries, but there are many places that we have not been able to reach. There is still something to conquer."
